Jennifer Olson-Madden, Ph.D.
LICENSED Clinical PSYCHOLOGIST
Colorado Psychology License # 3399
I have been a licensed clinical psychologist in Denver, CO for over ten years, and have worked in the field of psychology and mental health for over twenty years. In addition to affiliations with the Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Departments of Psychiatry and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, I maintain a private practice in the Denver Metro Area. It is in my practice where I provide evidence-based and person-centered psychotherapies and strategies to facilitate behavior change. I offer guidance on goal attainment and committed action to individuals seeking a life of authenticity, empowerment and purpose. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve emotional wellness, clarity of mind, and a values-driven life!
I obtained my doctorate (PhD) from the University of Denver with a focus on rehabilitation/health psychology and young adults. I trained in community mental health settings, a college counseling and wellness center, and large metropolitan and Veterans Affairs medical centers. I have served a wide range of clients including adolescents, young adults, mid- and later-life adults, Veterans and military service members, and couples and families. I completed both my pre-doctoral internship residency and a two-year formal post-doctoral fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA. Throughout my training and into my career, I have conducted funded clinical research as an interventionalist - specifically in treatment development and evaluation, including a randomized controlled trial on cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention. I developed a program of research on assessment and treatment of Veterans with co-occurring physical health problems (i.e., traumatic brain injury) and mental health concerns (i.e., post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, substance misuse, suicidality). I have been trained extensively in evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, problem-solving therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention. I also have substantial training and expertise in suicide risk assessment and management, suicide-specific therapies, and therapeutic risk management consultation. I frequently present on the national level on my research and best clinical practices, and have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and textbook chapters.

Evidence-Based Treatments I Use
Our therapeutic goals will be developed collaboratively and my approach to therapy is to assist you in becoming the “expert” about your life. I often conceptualize individuals from a bio-psycho-social framework, which means I focus on you as a whole person. Our work together will be highly individualized with particular emphasis on your strengths and areas for growth. My therapeutic style is to use transdiagnostic approaches and compassion-focused interventions to target your particular psychological processes. While it is important for us to identify the specific areas you are most concerned about, our focus in treatment will not be limited solely to your symptoms but on optimizing your overall wellbeing and vitality. Below are therapies I frequently incorporate (but is not exhaustive of what I can offer):
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Processing Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
In addition to direct client services, I also provide professional services. This includes serving as an expert witness in legal cases, conducting trainings and workshops, and providing clinical/supervisory consultation to licensed professionals on topics like:
supervision of trainees;
safety and suicide risk assessment and management;
interventional models and approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and other third-wave CBT strategies (i.e., mindfulness methods, acceptance-based procedures, psychological flexibility processes, values);
assessment and management of traumatic brain injury and comorbidities
Providers, please call me to discuss rates and availability for trainings or consultation needs.
